I met Leonardo during a photo session some years ago here in Tuscany from that moment we became close friends, and I can assure you that he is really a great person. I received a non-finished copy of the book before the release and I thought immediately that this will be really a great guide for all the photographers out there that are planning to make a trip to see the northern lights. As a photographer, I can say that in this book is explained all the necessary to take nice pictures to the aurora borealis, from the equipment that you need to the settings that you have to use. A really amazing work!
I personally know the Author and he kindly ask me to share my opinion also with American readers, so I'm very happy to suggest this book to who desires to learn something more about northern lights!
The quantity/quality of the informations supplied by this book is fantastic, all the aspects are covered really well. The images level is really high, there are some masterpieces in this book!
In the first part it's amazing how simply he explained what it is this phenomenon and in the second part the author shows in detail where we can see the northern lights and the ideal period to organize a trip. About the last part, since I'm not a photographer, I really can not say anything about the informations I can only say that the photos in that part are incredible! This book made me want to travel to the northern regions to see the aurora as soon as I can!
If you need help in planning your trip to see the northern lights, this is the right book for you. I already knew where and when I should go so I skipped that part (but I need to say that it seemed well made!); what I was looking for was in the third part, the one that talks about how to photograph it. As an amateur photographer, I really didn't know how to handle all the settings or the equipment, and this book helped me a lot everything is explained plain and simple, exactly what I needed. I already downloaded it on my phone so that I will be able to check it again and again on the field to follow all the steps described I hope that this will help me taking home some wonderful Aurora shot!
The writer purports to tell us of the Aurora Borealis, but most of his time is spent on basic photography. I was ok with this and liked the writing style so much that I found myself wishing that the writer would give us book on basic photography principles. I recommend.
This book is mostly about how to take photos of the Aurora Borealis. I got very little information that was useful to me. I am going to a state park that is a 'dark sky' area in Door County WI, hoping to see the lights. I won't be taking this book along to use as a guide.
A very interesting book that explores a spectacular phenomenon, all accompanied with great pictures.
